Engin Oil Standards

Featured Replies

Afternoon All

Looking for a little guidance as so far I have had 5 different interpretations without VW or Skoda being able to supply the technical information to back up there clams :(

I have a 2013 Skoda Octavia 1.2 TSI (13 plate) I used an approved supplier who has used a Shell oil @ 504.00. Skoda have advised me that my engine should have 502.00 not the 504.00. Upon closer inspection they said to me that 504.00 is backwards compatible but that is only true between the 504/503 range.

I have only ever had Castrol Edge Professional in the car from new so I am extremely hacked off that they don't know or are unwilling to provide me with the raw information for digestion As I believe they have used a cheap oil to cut costs and now been found out. ( Even if I cannot understand the information I have several Lab's as work who I can lean on for guidance)

I have tried to dig at the issue personally and have found out that 502.00 is clos in makeup to the 504.00 oils but the 504.00 is a thicker makeup therefor a different property.

Any help or advice greatly received

Scott

I use/used the VW507.00 grade oil which is ok for both petrol and diesel. It's the top of the range stuff and backward compatible with the grades you quote iirc.

The 1.2 TSI can have 5W 40 FS VW502 00 if getting Fixed Servicing.  9,400 miles / 372 days.

or 5w 30 FS Long Life if on Fixed or Flexible Servicing.   VW504 00

I would not have a 1.2 TSI on Flexible servicing,

and since VW can not be trusted and seeing as any TSI, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 or 2,0 litre can have issues come time,

5w 40 FS to VW 502 00 is pretty good and fixed servicing.

As to Castrol / Quantum Long Life,  Long Life OIl, VW504 00 / sometimes short life engines.

'Simply Clever',  Other Brands of the correct Spec not Long Life are readily available.

If you want an easy life and not flamed,

just do as VW Group Recommend, you know they are the 2nd biggest car manufacturer in the world and HONEST.

As to Service Desk Person's, they might have a NVQ in Keyboard / secretarial but Engines, OIl & Spec is not their specialist subject

or even one they might know anything about.

They should know a man or woman that does know like in the Workshop or just on Google.
