Yet another clutch + DMF Thread

Featured Replies

So I've had a read around and I'm looking at a new clutch + DMF.

I had a few questions.

1) has anyone got the following DMF kit? Do you find it a lot heavier than the standard clutch?

http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/sachs-1-9-tdi-6-speed-02m-dual-mass-flywheel-with-sachs-sre-performance-clutch-kit.html

2) would I get any benefit using the organic SRE clutch plate with the standard Sachs clutch kit or do I need the SRE friction plate too?

my car is a stage 1 remap, but the clutch was already on the way out before it was done.

I had that kit in my car for 40k miles, the pedal is heavier than standard as you would expect from an uprated clutch, I did not think it was that bad and after a few days it will just feel normal to you.

Personally I don't see the point of doing half a job I would just fit the full uprated clutch kit.

Don't forget Darkside prices are plus VAT, you will be able to find it cheaper if you hunt around

I've just had my clutch and flywheel changed for a Valeo SMF kit (bought from previous work place) and got rid of the DMF due to it failing. Im currently running stage 1.

No point in using just the pressure plate, it needs the harder material of the matching friction plate to reach the specified torque rating. Because it's engineered like that.

Standard turbo + remap means you don't need the uprated clutch, a new standard Sachs clutch and DMF will be fine if you're pinching the pennies. There is no stage 2 on the standard turbo, dumb tuning companies.

Thanks for the reminder about VAT!

I already decided to go down the DMF route rather than SMF.

Ah.. this is a brilliant explanation. If both sides needed replacement. I wasn't sold any faff about a stage 2, but concerns over when I need to eventually replace the turbo.

Been told £800 for a clutch replacement, but I think that's for a standard one including labour. I think he had a transporter though.. which is expensive anyway.

Any thoughts on where to get the uprated kit it from?

I can find bits and pieces, but not the whole set.

Car Parts for less doesn't have the friction plate.

That's because they're actually Eurocarparts, purveyors of knockoff Chinese crap to the masses
