Drivers SeatBelt Issues

Featured Replies

I currently own a 1.2 SE Plus and i have an issue with the drivers seatbelt and its driving me nuts :-) whenever i try and put it on its constantly locking. It doesnt matter how slow or fast i do it the damn thing just locks and can take me 30-40 seconds to put the belt on. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to loosen it or will i have to buy a complete new unit. If i have to buy a new seat belt unit how much do they cost?? Any information would be greatly appreciated

I am unsure as to cost but perhaps the belt is fitted in the car incorrectly. Perhaps it needs levelling or something so as to not lock up. I assume the car has not been in an accident before? If it has, replacing said belt, along with the tensioner and clip, will be more likely. To adjust it, you will need (After disconnecting the battery) To remove the plastic centre pillar trim, undo the bolts on the seatbelt hight adjust etc and gain access to the lower anchor, to remove/adjust this. The removal is given a 3 spanner rating in the Haynes manual, out of 5 so not a simple job as it requires quite a bit of trim removal and has to be done properly, for obvious reasons! I would recommend getting hold of a Haynes to help if you wish to proceed as it will pay for its-self if you manage the task. It does however mention, the seat belt tensioner can be triggered in a frontal impact above a certain force and will then lock up. Once triggered, they stay locked and do indeed, need replacing! Small impacts, and rear impacts may not trigger the system.

Timey - did you ever resolve this? I've got exactly the same problem and just wondered if you'd found a quick solution. Cheers. Colin
