So when car sales are falling ,is the scrappage scheme the answer for the environmental problems or just stock clearing & profit making?

I drive a 2009 insignia and swmbo is in her 2013 citigo.

Citigo was an ex demo bought in march 2014 as a 30th present from me and her dad.

Insignia last November which replaced my old mk1 octy diesel.

I am financially in a position where i could walk into 90% of dealerships and leave with a shiny new whatever i want on a pcp deal with a big ole deposit stumped up front in trade in and cash.

But i dont and wont for basic reasons... i dont like owing money, esp a depreciating asset.

It makes no sense for my job to have too new a car. The places i end up driving (farms, back roads, rough and dirty depots and compounds etc) and the crap i drag around with me would have my shiny new car ruined, or parked up undriven in a staff carpark while i use a fleet van so the new car doesnt get ruined.. Better for me to have swmbo in a reasonably young car small car for commuting and around town and mine to be the family journey load lugger and absorber of work dirt which is bet suited to a car more than 4-6yrs old. I also seem to end up driving them until they die or become uneconomical for me to keep fixing..
