Head unit woes

Featured Replies

Need some advice from the assembled knowledge that briskoda has gathered within these virtual walls.

I have my skoda superb, and a couple of years ago i got a kenwood dnx525 and shoved it in.

I have never been that impressed with it, and now the blueooth on it is giving me serious problems. I have a oneplus 5 that will only connect as a phone with no media, so i cant play any music or radio from it (the cricket while in france!).

The wifes oneplus 2 will connect correctly, but the bluetooth stutters and will not play correctly, so we end up with pauses in what ever we play every 30 seconds or so. I also had the same problem with my old HTC One m8, and kenwoods support has so far utterly hopeless (can you try an iphone is the best they have managed)

I have issues with paying £50 for a garmin map update every year considering how utterly hopeless the garmin nav is in general have sealed its fate for me.

So its going to come out. The question is what to replace it with. I have the original columbus, but that dosent have DAB which i would like.

So do i go for a newer columbus (or other oe unit with dab and nav)

Is there a better alternative  to the kenwood (alpine, pioneer, kenwoods dnx516?)

Or does anyone have any experience with the chinese android head units, would be interted to know what they are like to use and the general audio quality, i have seen the latest andround 7.1 units, but am unsure how good (or bad they really are)

Thanks for any help!

Columbus doesn't have Bluetooth you know. However, if you have Bluetooth fitted in the car (under the drivers seat) then that would possibly sort out that issue. As for DAB Columbus I have one here, if your Columbus is a newish unit then I might do a trade for yours.

In any case, if you're close to Richmond you can stop in and have a look see.

yeah, sorry i have the bluetooth unit under the seat.

Would be interested in checking out a DAB columbus, nice to see your not too far away (Sunderland here)

Anyone else have any knowledge of the chinese android units?

cheers

If you're ever heading down this way drop me a message. Just a thought, did you disconnect the Bluetooth under the seat and remove it from the cars configuration when you fitted the Kenwood? They have a nasty habit of interfering with each other if there's two Bluetooth kits active on the car.
