Looking for a mod to put a small light in the pull out draw next to the steering wheel, something that only comes on when its opened, perhaps a small led ??

Do you have footwell lighting on your car?

Not sure never noticed , but will check

 

Non footwell lights, removed the side panel thinking I could use a jumper fuse, even the fuse box has been moved

Drop the glovebox down and the fuse box is behind there. Run a wire from there, behind the dash and use a switch like below and a LED from eBay.

The other more complicated option is to use an unused pin on the 09 body module, you could code it as ambient lighting but this is more difficult.
