Clutch vibration & intermittent 5th gear problem

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I've read threads on both of these issues separately, but couldn't find anything on the issues coupled, so please excuse the new thread.

I bought a 1.9 54 Octy a few weeks ago. Also have a fabia and used to have an Octy VRS, so I'm pretty familiar with the brand!

The 54 has 139k on the clock. Full service history, timing belt changed twice and clutch/DMF changed a couple of months ago. I bought it from a small family owned reputable garage with a 3 month warranty.

I'm having two issues...

1. When I put my foot on the clutch, there is a noticeable vibration in the pedal. This is not just when you rest your foot in it, rather it lasts all the way to the floor. I'm not on the clutch all the time, but now regularly check it as I know it's there!

2. Occasionally, when selecting 5th gear, it won't engage. Usually it grinds a bit, then I try to engage 5th again and it won't quite engage. It's like it's almost there, yet something is blocking it from going in. When I reclutch and engage, it usually engages without issue. This happens maybe once every two days. On maybe 3 occasions it has popped back out of 5th, although I don't think it was fully engaged in the first instance. I don't ride the clutch when stationary.

Any thoughts on the above?

Both issues in unison have me a little worried, although I am only too aware that a 140k car will have some wear and tear, but none of us want a huge bill after a few weeks.

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Cheers,

Joe.

Not an expert a 1.9 should be good for plenty of miles. Has the clutch been bled properly?. I had issues with vibration that I never got rid of to this day, changing the slave cylinder on the gearbox and bleeding it helped a little, however that was done because the pedal had dropped. I also had a new master cylinder around the same time to try and cure the issues. If you have a warranty take it back asap.
