I checked some threads but wanted to get some more opinions about 1.2 TSI 110 estate. I currently have MK2 1.2 TSI 105 hp HB, had the problem with timing chain

 

I am thinking about changing the car, looking for options for some new cars and some used:

 

New ones: Vauxhall Astra 1.6 105 hp Sedan Automatic Gearbox - my first option but a little expensive for my budget

Fiat Tipo Sedan or estate - 1.4 , does not have very good engine performance and NCAP results are not so bright.

 

except for reliability problems I am pleased with performance of Octi and the boot is quite enough for me, but I would prefer to have estate while I have small baby with a lot of stuff to carry

 

My priority is reliable engine, transmission and body - not much interested in with equipment.

 

When I check for MK3 1.2 TSI 110 hp, I generally see good comments, I would like to know if there is something that I should be careful about when I check the car. I test drove Mk3 Fabia estate last year the performance was quite okay but the car felt a little small for me as I am a tall guy.

 

Are there any known issues that I should be aware of with Octi MK3? 1.2 TSI going well until now? I might go for manual transmission.

 

My Octi takes a lot of road noise, is that similar with MK3?

The road noise is average, but less with 16 inch wheels and higher profile tyres. The 1.2TSi is now a very good engine, BUT, the 1.4TSi coupled to DSG is a peach. I switched from the Mk3 VRS 2.0 CR  diesel, to the 1.4TSi. It's quicker but not in corners due to torsion beam rear suspension. Over 7000 miles I have averaged 53 MPG, mostly long motorway driving. It's the 5 door hatch, but the boot is HUGE.

As above the 1.2 and 1.4 have the same basic layout and while there are few 1.2 octavia owners on the forum none report issues. Similarly I cannot remember any 1.4 owner issues even from the two who challenged it the most.

TMWNA was into the whole sado masochistic bit and regularly thrashed his mercilessly.

Another continental owner towed a large caravan and explored the top speed on autobahns (sans caravan of course).
