Head Gasket Kit

Featured Replies

Some of you may have seen my 1.8t build thread on my Fabia.. anyway I'm currently rebuilding the engine.

I got to the stage yesterday to replace the head and bot it all up, so out comes the 'Head Gasket Kit' bought from Euro Car Parts..

No head gasket to be found!!, looked all over the garage no sign of it, it didn't come with the kit.

Today I ring up ECP to say I didn't receive the head gasket in the kit.. Their reply.. 'The head gasket kit doesn't contain the head gasket'.

I complained and said surely a 'Head Gasket Kit' should contain a head gasket.. even the picture shows a head gasket.

Their reply.. 'It's for illustration purposes and not in the kit'

WOW mind blown.. ECP also don't sell a head gasket on its own for 1.8t

Where do I go from here?

They appear to be wrong. Surprise, surprise.

Look up the ECP part number as an ebay search and you get the same pics in one of their listings. In the description area it cross-refs to an elring part number of 461380.

Look up that on ebay and you get stuff like this, clearly containing the HG.

Yeah that's the exact pack I received, but no head gasket.

I didn't look at it until yesterday as I presumed a head gasket kit contained a minimum of a head gasket :D

The only item they tend not to contain is the head bolts. Did the package appear to have been opened when you received it?

I'm not sure, I only opened it to see I the backing cardboard was actually a double layer with gasket in between.

I'll have a proper look later when I get in from work.

I dunno, i think ecp are slipping.

Ive had problems with my last orders from them, after plenty other fantastic no issue orders over the years.

Hella radiator for the insignia leaked worse straight out of the box than the one it was replacing.. that got returned and fair play the warranty no quibble and refunded (mechanic sourced an oem one for same price as the hella, and had it same day)

And last wednesday i opened a box with 2 new skf rear wheel bearing kits (one failed got 36% off on sale so bought 2) in it..

One of them perfect, the other looked like it had been sent back by someone else already, fk putting that on my car! Box taped up in tatters and the 3 new retaining bolts missing. Also a much older batch number and even box design. I photgraphed it as i unboxed and emailed..  its being collected by dhl for replacement tomorrow..

The kit has been opened and selotaped back up. I never noticed as i ordered loads of parts at the same time, as i didnt need them i just stored them away.

They said they would try and source a HG for me and send me a £20 valeting kit too. But they don't stock the HG so we shall see.

Theyll open another kit, remove the HG and send it to you. Then tape the box up and some other poor sap will get the next gasket-less kit :D
