Featured Replies

Well after an absence of nearly 2 years iv gone and bought an 07 plate VRS.

Cracking motor.

Couple of things id like to ask you all.

1. What are you geting MPG wise? Im geting about 37/38 and tbh, I thought it would be higher than that.

2. Need details of suttle mods i.e. front splitters etc

Cheers in advance :-)

welcome back - erm mpg.... depends on if your tdi or petrol ;)

mods wise - that depends on what you want and budget, main ones are:

colour coded grill

upgraded badges and centre caps

lowering springs eibach - or b6/12 kits

remap

uprated RARB

maxidot - if you haven't got it

mfsw

whilst I like the look of splitters - I find them to cause more problems than they're worth

My bad!! its petrol.........

well that doesn't seem bad to me really, but it's all depending on your driving style and routes

38mpg at 60 on the motorway then maybe it's a bit low

town driving / short trips - seems average to good

stop start traffic in rush hour - then it's very good

Im going by my other 2 VRSs and they would get 42/43 over same routes.

Im all fareness its better than the 18mpg my Subaru does........

Nice looking car you've got there.  I've got the petrol vRS and I'm averaging about 37mpg over the last 5k miles.  Mine has a few mods though but compared to when it was standard it's a bit better on fuel for some reason.

In terms of mods I'll go with Gissin's list :

colour coded grill - done that & it looks better

upgraded badges and centre caps - not done that but I've replaced the originals

lowering springs eibach - or b6/12 kits - I've done the lowering springs but with B4 shocks

remap - custom map done at RS Tuning in Leeds

uprated RARB - works really well

maxidot - if you haven't got it - not got it and not too bothered

mfsw - same as above

whilst I like the look of splitters - I find them to cause more problems than they're worth - I'm with Gissin as they catch on speed bumps quite easily and if not attached correctly can come off at speed.

There's a few other bits I've done myself such as the camshaft follower replacement for peace of mind but those are the main mods.  I did get the cambelt & water pump done straight away as well as a new set of tyres.  I suppose new wheels are a mod & I went for Pro Race 1.2 with the correct centre bore and a slightly reduced offset of 45.

I'll be interested to see what you do to the car so put up some photos as you go along.

Whats RARB, Maxidot and MFSW?

Rear anti roll bar and multi function steering wheel. Maxidot is the larger info display between the dials and had additional info. and menu options.
