2010 vrs 2.0tdi cr. egr valve coolant leak

hello all. car has a problem. occasionally it struggles to start but goes after 3 or 4 attempts. when it does start i get clouds of white steam from the exhaust. give it some welly and this then clears. then coolant level warning comes on. car will be fine for a day or so and then the same again. i suspect i have an internal coolant leak on the egr valve. has anyone experienced this or know of a common fault that would cause these symptoms? cheers.
