Fabia EPC warning light, burning smell and power loss..!

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all, after just over 2 years of fault free ownership my Fabia has finally had its first hiccup. Serviced a month ago

My wife and I decided to take our newborn son for his first drive. Car seat locked in, set off and within 100m I notice the EPC light is on, 50m later the revs start falling and 50m after that the car has stalled. Car says manual restart is needed. Starter motor takes 5 seconds to get the car going again so I pull into a parking space. I think I smell burning so get the wee man out of the car asap. Could have imagined the burning but not 100%.

Tried the car 5 minutes later and it started first time, with no EPC light and seems to be fine?

Any theories to what might have happened? Would you get it towed to the garage or do you reckon it can be driven?

Also the car seat is a tight fit.. might use this as an excuse to swap it for an Octavia/Kodiaq!

Cheers,

Steve

Firstly, congratulations to you both.

Anyway, what kind of burning smell? Fuel, plastic, oil, rubber, electronics?

Can you get codes read? Someone near you with VCDS maybe? There may be something stored still that points in the right direction.

Congratulations on the birth of your son!

This happened to my wife when she took the Fabia to work a couple of weeks ago, minus the burning smell. The light would go off after restarting the engine but come back on soon after.

Skoda dealer advised the car must not be driven except to the garage. Once there they found the turbo pressure sensor had failed which was replaced under warranty.

Although i I believe the epc light relates to lots of systems affecting the running of the engine so could mean something totally different in your case so definitely worth getting a diagnostic on it to check the codes.

Agree on on the car seat front too, the only way ours fits in is with the passenger seat moved forward slightly. So we’ve been looking at a Karoq!

Perfect thanks both, can’t really explain the smell - it could have been my imagination. It’s going in for repair next week. Will share results once done.

Oh and the Karoq is definitely an option as well!

  • 2 weeks later...

As an update finally got it to the garage today and apparently it needs a replacement wiring loom for the fuel pump. All under warranty and great service from the dealership.

Still going to swap it for a Kodiaq!

Best,

Steve
