Rolling back emissions "fix" - wait until fix warranty expired?

Featured Replies

Hi all

As above really. My car had the emissions fix applied in May this year, and has since mainly worked OK - fuel consumption over 50 on average (according to the trip computer, which I think is optimistic, but even so, pretty good) and it doesn't seem to lack power. It's done about 5,000 miles since the fix I think, about 1500 of these in my hands.

However, the glow plug light and engine management light came on a couple of times, shortly after the fix and more recently, and eventually, Skoda replaced the EGR valve last week, no cost to me apart from fuel and time and inconvenience.

I'm thinking of rolling the fix back, and have found a local place that can do it for £150 odd, which doesn't sound too bad. However, I assume that if they roll the fix back, Skoda will immediately not honour any more "good will" fixes of problems possibly (already) caused by the fix. So, should I get the fix rolled back immediately, and give up on the Skoda warranty? Or wait a bit longer for something else to fail (injectors?), hope that Skoda will fix it, then get the fix rolled back? The "good will" fix warranty extends to May 2019.

I'm leaning towards getting the fix rolled back ASAP, but am unsure as to what other damage may already have been done by it... If any - as said, car seems to behave and handle OK. What other areas tend to be affected by the fix? I think the EGR is the biggie. I've also seen reports of a replaced EGR failing again a month later! (Without the fix being rolled back).

Any thoughts? Cheers.
