  1. Hi folks I'm taking my 2011 Skoda Octavia Scout to France later this year. In the past I've used those headlamp adaptor deflector stickers on UK cars, and not had problems. However I hear that more modern car lights can be adjusted to drive on the other side of the road, possibly by a dealer. Does anyone know if my Scout can do this? I can adjust the headlight beam level lower using the adjuster to the right of the steering wheel - would that do? I won't be taking it to the dealer! Thanks.
  2. Be interested to hear what you find! Been fairly dry here recently so not sure it's water related. But could be... Stick one of those dehumidifier packs in the car?
  3. Hi all Bit of an odd one, but the illumination on two of the needles on my dash started to flicker, and eventually they went dark and stayed dark. They're the needles for engine temp and fuel level. I presume these two are fed by one bulb / LED somewhere as the flashed and failed simultaneously? The rest of the dash is fine, and I can't believe there's a fuse just for these two needles. I imagine replacing the bulb / LED is a pig of a job involving dash removal? IN which case I'll probably just live with needles that don't glow when the lights are on! Thanks.
  4. Where is the safety latch -at the bottom of the battery? I assume this holds the battery into the car? Thanks.
  5. Thank you, also good to know. My scout is fairly ancient, no stop start.
  6. Thanks warrior, that's reassuring. 🤞 It's probably the original battery, so not that surprising - it's 12 years old! When it comes to replacing the battery, is it just a straight swap? No radio codes or similar to enter, or keys to reprogram?
  7. Hi folks Went to start my Octavia today after not using it for a week or two and it wouldn't start. The starter solenoid clicks constantly and the dashboard lights flash on and off. The fuel gauge jerks up from quarter to half to three quarters to full but nothing seems right, and the display stutters as well. I'm currently charging the battery as it was low (showing 10.5v!) and it's cold and damp but is there anything else to look out for? I can't run a fault code scan on it because the ignition doesn't stay on long enough for the code reader to be recognised. Wonder if it could be an alarm cutting power to a solenoid? Thanks.
  8. It started working intermittently again, so I didn't replace it. Just taken it to garage and the MOT chap said the 3rd brake light is now an advisory rather than a fail - which would make sense as there are two other good brake lights...
  9. Thanks both, got the part number. Yes, mine is maxidot so shows a warning. It's working again now but sod's law states it will go off on Wed on the way to the MOT centre!
  10. Ah hah. I've found a couple that look right for the £25 to £35 mark - that's more like it! Anyone know the part number for a 2011 Octavia Scout estate? The main ebay page says one will fit, but the details page says it doesn't!
  11. I just had a quick look for lights on eBay! Will look futher afield, but I'd imagine a garage will be paying similar amounts for it, plus labour. Yes, I could probably fix it myself if I can just get it through the MOT first... Thanks.
  12. Hi folks My 3rd brake light (the high level one above the boot glass) is only working intermittently. A bit of looking on YouTube suggests I can replace the whole thing - but at a cost of £200 ish for the light unit, plus install time, and an MOT on Wednesday (timing) I'm hoping I can replace just the bulb rather than the whole unit? Fingers crossed. Thanks.
  13. Worth noting that when my driver's window went (see my topic linked above!), the passenger window regulator went a month or two later. Might be worth doing both while you're there perhaps?
