Correct wheel rim size for 1.9TDI 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi

I bought a 2010 Mark 2 Octavia 1.9TDI in July 2017. I have recently had the car serviced and was told that the rear tyres arer near the limit and to have them changed within next couple of months.  I asked my son who works in a small independant garage to get the tyres for me as he can obtain a significant discount. I gave him the details off the existing tyres which show 225/60 R15. He has subsequently come back to me and said that from his information the rims should be 16inch for a Mark 2 Octavia and not 15inch.   I am now confused and wonder if a previous owner has changed the wheels at some point.

Can anyone please advise me on what is the correct wheel rim size for my model?.

Thanks

The 1.9 and 2.0 TDi 4x4's came with 15 inch rims as standard (but I think they were 205's).  16" rims were an option.

Standard rims were 15" 6.5j 205/60R15

Just had a look in a brochures from January 2010 and November 2012, both say the 4x4 got 15” Pyxis alloys (6.5J x 15” 205/60 R15 V) as standard.

There was also a factory option/upgrade to 16” Draconis alloys (6.5J x 16” 205/55 R16 91V).

Either way, neither size matches up with what it currently fitted...

Probably it sounds like the wheels have been changed previously staying in the same diameter but wider ones, although this currently tyre dimension on your car is unusual...

Are the fronts and rears matching sizes now other than the rears being worn?

If only replacing the rears be sure you are matching with the fronts size wise, no need to change wheels or tyre size if the car is all good just now,

If it was me, I'd stick with the 225/60r15.  I know they are out of spec (205/60r15 is correct) but it's a better diameter IMO.  Not sure what the insurance implications are in your area though.
