First service, wheel alignment failed notice.

Featured Replies

Hi, had my octavia serviced last week at 17,000. All good apart from I was given a sheet that states wheel alignment failed, I asked is it upto them to correct it and they said " no next time I get new rear tyres I need to have it done then and not before,  I'm guessing it could be another 10,000 miles till I need new rear tyres as the tread was around 7mm. Is this definitely not something I could push for under warranty, the car has had a fairly easy life never hitting a kerb and can not recall hitting any potholes.

Not likely under warranty - doubt any dealer will say anything other than wear and tear. Speed humps are another possible culprit for knocking out the alignment?

I use Newtown Tyres for tyres and alignment by the way, and find them excellent. They don't even charge me for checking alignment - only if adjustment is needed. :)

Are your tyre pressures regularly checked and correct.

Those Wheels/tyres could and should have been moved front to rear and then the alignment checked again and adjustment made.

?

Is the Alignment done as part of the Servicing at no extra charge?

That is a nice touch, but allowing tyres to expire prematurely is not 'Simply Clever' of them.

Take a car into another service, for a second opinion and for a realignment - if still necessary.

This is total toe, doesn't show toe of each wheel. Seems a little less closed rear axle then it should, but not necessarily will wear more - actually probably less. If the car doesn't play with rear end when you going straight, but holding a line well, this is nothing to worry about.

I do not see the logic in 'helpfully' taking the time to carry out an alignment check and report the results but not offer the service to correct the alignment.  It's a pretty bad business model and worse still, poor customer service.

I personally wouldn't wait for x amount of miles for a re-check as in the interim period your tyres are prematurely wearing and it could also be indicative of an issue not exclusive to wheel alignment.

Look for a reputable, local tyre fitter who offer alignment checks with a Hunter system (or similar), cost will be £35-50 which will include the check and then any adjustment required.
