Connecting to Skoda Wlan

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I recently saw that my mobile phone had found a "new" wifi network called "skoda_wlan_fcd600".

Can anybody tell me what this is and how I can connect to it as it requires a password which is unknown to me?

Thanks for your help.

Can not find any reference to this lan anywhere. Is this again an option I paid for but which is a dud...... :crying:

I thought that the password was contained within the on board system settings pages when setting it up, and you just type it into the device to connect.

It's only any use as an internet device if you paid for the sim card option as well, otherwise it will only connect other items to the internet if you buy the stupidly expensive car stick or pointlessly connect a Wi-Fi device to it and use it as relay station.

which is pointless when you can just connect your tablet/phone/whatever directly to the Wi-Fi dongle anyway when you only have the size of a car to worry about.

However you can use it instead of bluetooth to stream music and video from a tablet/phone/whatever.

So it's a dud.

You can use the IOS/Android Skoda OneApp on your phone/tablet connected to the cars WLAN hotspot and get some live data (engine RPM, current speed, G-meter, mileage, trip data, GPS location, service intervals, service type, etc.) from the car into the app. It works well and you can record your trips. There is also a 0-62 timings thing in the app if you fancy recording them too (I've never tried nor will I). Essentially a limited subset of what the car is doing.

As already eluded to it is also possible to connect the car to the internet and use it as a hotspot for wifi devices - although I agree with another poster that one could have just used the wifi hotspot capabilities of a smart phone to do the same.

It is also possible to connect the car to your home wifi system when the ignition is on. Although I'm not so sure of the benefit of this but have been able to play videos from my home Plex system (DNLA) on the Columbus while parked on the drive (again pointless but possible).

You can also get GPS location, check status of car (locked, windows, etc.), flash lights/sound horn, set up a location notification, etc. using the Skoda Connect App or the webpage providing you have the connected services and they are enabled.
