Temperature Sensor

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick question to find out if anyone has ever experienced a faulty temperature sensor on their 1.6 tdi?

Mine has been “overheating” for the last 2 weeks, only on my commute to work... when I stop the car and allow it to sit and cool for about 5 minutes it runs totally fine at 90 degrees for the rest of the day.

It’s been checked over by 2 independent mechanics, both of who agree the water pump is doing as it should and if it were the thermostat then I would experience overheating more often than I do, which has led them to believe the temperature sensor may be at fault.

Something that confirms it to me is when an older gentleman reversed into the front of my car on Friday with quite a bit of force. The temperature gauge sat at 90 degrees the entire weekend while I was driving to work and throughout the whole shift! Then today it fluctuated between 90 and 110 before setting back to 90 and staying there!

Strange lol

Its not something I've heard of & the water pump issue normally doesnt affect the 1.6 engine.

Maybe its s sticky needle in the cluster rather than a faulty sensor?

Can you add the coolant temperature as a digital display in the Maxidot?

The would tell you sensor or needle.

Alternatively you can read coolant temperature for one of the OBD apps like Torque or perhaps even Skoda Connect?

Normal there should be plausability diagnostic for sensors like this so it should detect that when the engine is cold, the water, oïl, fuel temperature should all be about the same.

If one of them is stuck higher than the others, there should be a fault code to indicate which one.
