Never thought about being a Skoda owner!

Featured Replies

Having written off my run around in Sunday's snow, I was desperate to buy a cheap car to get to and from work.

A fella down the road deals in small cars and had this 52 plate Fabia 1.4 Classic, 12 month's MOT, main dealer maintained and with two lady owners. Lovely clean car and he didn't want a lot of money for it, although it does have a couple of what seem to be classic faults. It's a very basic model but I'm pleased with the quality feel of the interior, ride and handling. Must be that VW influence. One of my other cars is a MK 5 Golf, so I'm familiar with some of the switches etc.

I'm comforted by the discussion about the mayonnaise under the oil filler cap and assumed that this was just condensation as oil and coolant are clean and clear and there's no hint of smoke from the exhaust. I need to wait for the thaw and rag it up the M11 for a couple of junctions.

I've just ordered a water temperature sensor and having looked at the video on the site, it should be a doddle to fit. (How many times have I thought that before?!)

It's got manual central locking and the passenger doors don't always lock or unlock. The interior light doesn't work either, so I'm wondering if this is a micro-switch issue and will do a bit more research on the site to work out how I get the lock out to clean check.

So, as an unexpected Skoda owner, I'm really pleased to find this site. Just sitting here for under an hour, it's been a great help in getting a feel for my latest purchase.

I'll be back soon!

Hi V18 and welcome :)

Sounds like a nice little runabout :).

Hopefully your locking and int. light faults turn out to be easy fixes !

I have recently replaced a drivers door lock module on our 02 Polo 1.4 16v but we had additional faults (door open light not working, headlights left 'on' alarm not working, door puddle lights not illuminating) but hopefully yours will not be that .

Hello Ali welcome to the Skoda forum good to see your enjoying your Skoda hope you get it sorted .:)

Thanks for the welcome. I’ve sorted the central locking. There isn’t any! Maybe a new bulb’ll do it.

Changed the water temp sensor and although the gauge is now working,  it’s a bit erratic. For the sake of £23 quid, I might change the thermostat too. I’m liking this little car already. The thermostat on my last Merc. Cost ten times that.
