Rear fog light not working.

Featured Replies

Hi all, just a quick question before I drag the Haynes manual out. Driving in fog yesterday and the front fogs worked fine but when switched the rear fog did not come on nor did the warning light on the dashboard cluster. Just to throw a curved ball into this I had a tow bar fitted a month ago and they managed to stop the rear wiper working by using the wrong fuse for a piggy back. I had the car serviced just after and the garage sorted this for me, so I assume they also checked the rear fog at the same time as the service (I know what assumptions can do...).

If the bulb has blown will it stop the dash board warning light from illuminating? Does the rear fog have it's own fuse? Any other thoughts?

Many thanks.

Phil

Just as an update the bulb is good and the fuse is good. It does not look like the towbar wiring bits have gone near it but I'm not putting money on it .... I'll have another look after Christmas.

May also be a duff switch, they do go occasionally. Might be worth trying a different one if you can get hold of one. They are quite expensive from a main dealer though so trying prior to replacing might be handy. Or, if you know its the switch, get the ol' replacement upgraded auto light switch. You can often get this sorted from China etc for less or around the same as a Skoda switch and you will then have automatic light/ come home light function too!

Thanks for the help mrgf. It is with some embarrassment that I admit the problem was one of my own making. The new tow bar electrics are 13 pin, so I bought a 13 to 7 pin adaptor from Srewfix and plugged it in, and left it in as there was no need to remove it I thought. Wrong. The adaptor tells the canbus system that there is a trailer/caravan/bike rack behind so to avoid the glare of the rear fog light on the front of the caravan etc it stops the car rear fog light  working but leaves the trailer board fog light working..... D'oh! The adaptor is now removed and the rear fog is back to normal.
