Rattle on the back.

Featured Replies

The rattle on the back comes off the tailgate bottom lock bracket. The bush rattles on the stem. Its not struts, lock alignement. To fix grease standard universal type on latch and bar. Problem fixed. Should cost 10p. This should be part of the routine service for all door catches. Just shows how bad the people who service your cars.

Did you try adjusting the door closure adjustment, one on each side at the bottom of the door.?
Prise off the covers and you'll find this.

Err,no.
There is no requirement to grease ANY lock latch and bar, and in fact, doing the door ones would just risk damage to the occupants clothes as they enter and exit. I can think of no manufacturer that does as you suggest.

As Urrell has correctly suggested, and as has been reported on here numerous times, the correct way to stop rattles with the rear hatch is to adjust the stop locks.

Grease attracts dirt and that causes even more problems.

Not sure that grease is used anywhere during a service these days.

Re grease - certainly not the latch and bar, but I’m sure some grease appears near my door hinges etc after a service. Think the bonnet catch gets lubricated with oil of some sort. My old independent has also always greased the brake pipes . Since using them I’ve never had to replace a metal brake pipe and I do keep cars for years (if I like them!)
