Octavia Black Edition - aftermarket exhaust?

Featured Replies

Would love a vRS estate but do far too many miles so need something with lower running costs.

The Black Edition (2014) looks really sporty, has most of the vRS extras and the 1.6 TDI definitely has low running costs.

Sporty looks however are IMO let down at the rear end with no visible exhaust. Has anyone found an aftermarket system or just back box that would be suitable for a 1.6 TDI estate?

Not an answer to your question but I’d be curious to know how much less that’ll cost to run over your ownership compared to a vRS. With enevrthing taken into account, depreciation and all.

Sporty? Not in my opinion. It’s a basic car with dodgy skirts put on the car.

Thats without even even looking at the basic interior. Most of the VRS extras??

Get a VRS

Although not a VRS, still think it’s a nice looking motor.

Some lowering springs would help on that front too.

I would suggest going for a custom exhaust.

Tony Banks in Leeds are fantastic, or a Powerflow dealer.

You could choose the tailpipe design you want and the sound your after.

How many miles do you do? I’m getting a steady 48 MPG out of my 2.0 TDi vRS DSG on winter diesel and I do like to push on ;) I’d imagine a manual vRS with a lighter right foot would jump over 50 MPG and you won’t have to suffer the 1.6’s woeful lack of power and 5 gears. I mean seriously, competitor cars had 6 gears years ago. I’m doing 25kpa miles and that all works out at 11-12p per mile in fuel. My brother has a 1.6 TDi Fabia and he says since the emissions recall (which he stupidly went for!) his MPG hasn’t made it over 45!

I'm doing similar miles, c.23k and spend around £38 in diesel a week. My car at mo is a 2009 Octavia 1.6 TDI Greenline and according to computer I'm averaging 65mpg, this may well be b*ll*x

My commute is A roads and back roads so 6th gear would be rarely used however I wish I had a 6th gear when using motorways.

To be honest, I'm pretty happy with the power, it does pull well and can easily overtake, obviously nothing like a vRS. It's had DPF and EGR removed a long time ago and done 185k miles (I declined the recall!)

I do like the look of the Black Edition and exhaust and springs would definitely help (thanks Damo) but I guess it would be like trying to polish a turd compared to owning a vRS which as well as a bit more to run would cost c.£3k more to buy as well  :wondering:

Might have to stop being so tight and look some more at the manual vRS :D

My fuel bill is about £40-45 per week when I’m at work. Tbh, I’m used to running expensive cars (former tuned C30 T5 & current Mercedes CLK55 AMG owner!) so seeing 45+ MPG in the Octy makes me happy. Ofc the Citigo will smash 60 MPG without trying.

I wouldn’t compare it to turd polishing, the BE is a nice idea; some sporty looks with the smaller engine for those want that combo. A vRS will be more ££ all round but it won’t be a huge amount and if it’s what you really want then it’s worth it. I really wanted a vRS, failing that an Elegance with the 18 inch Golus alloys but the ride on the torsion beam let that down hugely so it had to be a vRS after driving one of them.

Mine cost £10,995 with 75k on a 14 plate last month and is pretty well optioned (except sat nav!) so anything around that price point would be a good buy :)
