New owner VCDS recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi, just bought my first yeti (1.2 elegance 2014) and love it.

I think my first fix will be too switch the car to Australian so I can get a mph digital display.

Are there any other mods through VCDS which you'd recommend while I'm at it?

courtesy 3 flash to max 5 flashes?

Teardrop wipe?

Needle sweep.

Change coming home/away lights to the fogs/DRL so that the Xenon lights are not used (As you have an elegance, assume that you have the xenon lights).

FYI, if you are looking for the needle sweep, it is also called 'staging' when you search for it.

on my yeti staging/needle sweep is unavailable!

Where does this belief, that Australia is still living 40 years in the mph past, come from?.

It’s because Australia uses km and there is no absolute requirement there to have a fixed second display in mph unlike Uk where we use miles and are supposed to have a km display. (And I know it can be switched in the maxidot once changed to Australia spec! However they seem to assume some drivers would be unable to do this)

By changing to Australia spec you then do get the option to have the second display in mph or kph and can also have the larger display.

Personally I can’t see the point in a large inaccurate mph display in the maxidot. Trying to remember than say 76mph is actually a true 70!

I find it easier to remember that a displayed 118kmh is a true 70mph.

If your car has satnav you can’t use the large display anyway?

None of my previous cars have had an accurate Speedo, why break the habit of a lifetime? Plus I find the big display easier then the dial.

Thanks for the recommendations. The next step is to find a local VCDS operator.

^ ^ On my mk 1 there is no reason to have the satnav showing on the maxidot screen it can be scrolled to other displays, - that is on an Amundsen+ system!

Yes it can, but when you turn on the satnav, it defaults to giving directions on the maxidot. You have to change it to another display. I suppose there may be a setting to stop it doing that, but then you lose functionality.

I believe it's possible to change the automatic headlamp wash from every five to every ten screen washes.  Well, that's on my 'VCDS to do one day' list, so I must have read here sometime!

Thats the only thing I would want to change, as it drinks screenwash with the lights on.

As an aside it is very easy to inadvertently squirt the screen more than once to get the dirt off. Each squirt counts towards the next deluge over the headlights. I find I use a lot less water with a longer single squirt each time i need to use the wash.

Think the only thing I would do is to change the "coming home lights" to the fog lights.

Mine is already on 10
