Noises when switching on.

Featured Replies

Waiting for my wife to get in the Yeti this morning so I switched on without starting up the engine. Quiet morning and as I sat there I noticed some strange and different whirrings coming from behind/around the dashboard. I assume this is various relays being activated when I switched on the car, must admit I was surprised there were so many different relays etc. activated by switching on the ignition and how long the whirrings went on for. Anyone else noticed this? Of course if I started the car as soon as switching on I wouldn't have heard a thing, but as I said it was a very quiet morning with no extraneous noise.

Thought so but always worth checking with gentlemen on this site!

In addition to these noises. I've noticed a short "whirr" when getting into the car after a stop.  I think I read somewhere it is the fuel pump priming before the ignition gets switched on.

For no good reason I can think of, I tend to wait until the various noises have stopped before starting the car.  Maybe I'm subconsciously remembering the similar noises made by the electrically-operated automatic choke on my Austin Maestro?

As long as my Yeti starts and all of the warning lights go out, I'm happy!
