Leathery upper door trim renewal

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

The wife has just bought a MK 2 Octy, only niggle is the drivers door.  The leathery upper trim, where you'd put your arm in the summer while the window is down, is a bit knackered, with tears and visible foam.  I've tried looking on auction sites and googling it, but I'm not getting very far.  Does anyone know what it is actually called?  a part number maybe?  or even know where to get one from?  The guy she bought it off tried to tell me they were only about £40 from Skoda but I reckon he was talking flannel straight out the box anyway.  Many thanks in advance.

You'll need a complete door card, everything off the old one will need to be fitted to the new one, I looked into buying one a good few years ago and your looking at £250/£300 from the dealer.  I'd start looking around the scrappies

Cheaper option might be to find a trimmers who can supply matching replacement vinyl and re cover it?

Yep new or used door card needed, problem is good second hand drivers door card are like hens teeth to find, had the same problem on my old pre FL octy, never did find one.

I did consider having it retrimmed but went a bit drastic and bought my L&K instead.

I'm not sure how these wear out? Maybe I sit lower in the car so don't use it as an arm rest, but mines up to 200k now and no signs of wear on that part of the door. :speechless:

My old one started to bubble up and then it split, it was like it was sun baked, my L&K on the other hand is not showing any signs of bubble or wear.

Cheers guys for your help.  Upon viewing the car I did point it out and mentioned her doing a re-trim herself as she can be a dab hand at stuff like that.  My Mk1 L&K hasn't had any such issues though.  Ah, the simpleness of older cars, hahaha
