Rear seats locked askew

Featured Replies

After a trip to Ikea I put the rear seats back up and the wider part somehow managed to lock at a bit of an angle. Its now stuck, with the catch release popped up, showing the red part and it won't budge forward or backwards.

Anyone else had this happen and can offer any suggestions?

Sounds like the backrest may have popped out of its bracket on one side where it mounts to the floor. They're designed so they can be removed when tilted part way forward. I think you can see one with the rear door open and the other will be visible if you take out the back of the narrow seat. That may give you a bit more wiggle room to free it. I've managed to get mine crooked but never managed to lock them like that.

Sorry I'm not very descriptive - I left the car at work Friday so I'm working from memory.

I have wrestled with mine on occasion. Though that was because the seat cloth got caught in the bottom bracket. You may have to get access through the boot and **** it a little.

Get a flat head screwdriver and put between the gap where the seat locks against the car, there's a catch mechanism like the door, use the screwdriver to prise it open, check other side seat release on how it works.

Thanks Red Studio. It's hard to tread the line between not enough force (no effect) and too much force (broken seat!). The trick is knowing which direction to apply the force, and I don't! I will try removing the narrow seat as you suggest, good tip
