Mk5 golf door lock mechanisms..

Featured Replies

Simple really, friend of swmbo mentioned this morning that her front passenger door is locked.

I asked a couple of questions about what way its stuck, and i reckon its the same deadlock pin stuck as i had on my mk1 octavia.

Just wondering if the lock mechanisms are the same or at least very similar on both a mk1 octy and a mk5 golf in how they work and the internal layout for cutting it open to release the deadbolt?

So that i can advise her on what the mechanic doesnt need to do? (Ie smash it with a hammer like many seem to think is needed.. :D )

They're most likely the same, if not similar.  My 2005 Superb's locks were identical to my 1999 B5 Passat's.  Both had dry solder joints and the actual 'fix' took all of about five seconds.  It was the dismantling that took the time.  I found this really helpful at the time:

Cool, ill pass on the good news.

My mk1 was the same - dissasembly was a pig. Had to abandon on first attempt as the spline bolts would not come out. So i had to wait until monday as parts dept in dealer was closed and factors didnt have the right ones in stock, buy 2 new bolts, then spent an hr the next saturday sitting on my driveway with my drill boring out the the centres to get them to drop. No doubt my neighbours thought id cracked up :D
