Flat bottom steering wheel

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm having problems getting in and out of my 2016 Octavia. If I slide my seat back far enough so my knees don't hit the steering wheel, I can't properly reach the pedals.

So I was thinking about switching my round MF 3 spoke steering wheel to the flat bottom version.

At Super Skoda they sell this: http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-III/Octavia-III-original-Skoda-perforated-leather-3-spoke-steering-wheel-2015-flat-bottom-version

Now my question is: will the buttons and trim from my steering wheel fit in this new wheel? And can these buttons safely be removed without wrecking things?

Presumably you’ve experimented with seat and steering column heights as well, prior to forking our for this?

There are a few on eBay for less than that with the buttons already in if you really want one. Then you can sell yours as one and recoup some costs. I personally don’t get on with mine for some reason in either the Octy or the Citigo and I’m not convinced you get that much more knee room, but it’s one option. It’s more for the look and feel of it really :)

I find myself moving the steering wheel up and down for getting in and out of the car and for driving. But even with the steering wheel in the highest position, it remains less than comfortable.

I already have the seat back further than I would like for driving, to avoid hitting my house keys on the ignition key when I alternate between the throttle and brake pedals. I'd hate removing my house keys from the ignition key, as I would forget them constantly lol.

For some reason these cars have VERY long brake and clutch pedals...feels a bit like the clutch on an old tractor or something. I'm close to cutting, shortening and welding them back together lol.

Change for DSG next time?? ;-)

As above, not sure if the flat-bottomed wheel (I have one) will give you much more room for the hassle / cost of changing.

If you do decide to get one, buy one with the button etc already on it!

You'll be fine with a flat bottom wheel, loads of space generated...until you want to turn and then realise it's curved and still hits your knees :D

I've driven a friends A4 Avant 3.0TDI biturbo, he has the S-line pack on it and it has a flat bottom wheel (and dsg). Somehow these cars lend themselves to long high speed autobahn trips. I cross the Alps in Austria when going to Italy, instead of going through Swiss, which is over 100 km shorter...just so i can make some speed in Germany lol.

The seating arrangement in the O3 has a similar feel i think. But I only looked at the flat bottom wheel because getting in and out of the car annoys me. Driving is not the problem.

Perhaps I'll try to find someone with a flat bottom wheel first, to see if it does something for me. No use spending 350 on a steering wheel if it doesn't solve anything.

As I said once before, and in the words of Queen:

"Flat bottomed wheels, you make the rockin' world go round..."

I remember hearing that in her Christmas speech
