Featured Replies

hi all

I'm looking to possibly change the steering wheel

on my 2013/4 yeti for something a bit more sporty

maybe something like this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2016-Skoda-Yeti-2014-On-Outdoor-SE-L-TSI-110-Steering-Wheel/162779794997?fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda&epid=26010569936&hash=item25e66e8e35:g:Zw8AAOSwuhFaHrVz

this is the style that is fitted to mine at the moment

any info would be helpfull

Stuart

The top one is damaged and scratched, so why pay £120 for it? Plus it doesn't have the air bag fitted, and they aren't cheap.

hi

yeah I understand that the wheel is damaged it was only used as an example

so show the type I was looking at

Top one is standard on an Elegance model I believe. Same as in mine.. it’s a nice comfortable wheel.

I would hardly call it a "sporty" wheel.

Superskoda or Skodadop sell similar wheels with perforated leather and flat bottomed shape - they're somewhat more "sporty".

Do you have DSG? If so, I'd strongly recommend you consider a paddle shift wheel.

The car I test drove was a Monte Carlo and it had the "sporty wheel" with flat bottom and leather with holes in. This was the optional steering wheel for the SEL Drive I was ordering. Quite expensive and I just didn't like the way it felt, or the change in shape as it turned.

Stuck with the standard wheel, which is what I think you have and it is great.

The wheel you are looking at was what was used on earlier Elegance cars, and I have had two cars fitted with them. Personally I prefer the feel of the current one, with less intrusive spokes, which is what you already have.

If you really want to change Superskopda have loads of different styles to pick from. You have to make sure they are compatible with your car though as the connectors for the electrics have changed over the years.

As it has an airbag, really needs fitting by a garage?

If I were you I would save my money as the wheel you are considering is an older style and less comfortable to use, and fitting it could devalue your car.

Could have been worse! Austin Allegro Quartic wheel - if you are old enough to remember it.

Bill

^^^ I remember it well!  I just couldn't get used to it.  I very quickly swapped it for something more conventional.

That aside, I actually liked my Allegro Estate :dull: :blush

I remember going with my brother and buying one of these at an auction about 35 years ago. It turned out to be one of the worst cars he ever owned, constantly breaking down and rapidly rusting away. What seemed reasonable at the auction for about £300 turned into a scrap car in less than a year, as there was no way it would get through another mot. Wasn't that old either, but back then cars typically only lasted 8 years or so.

Eight years - you were doing well! I lived by the sea in Cornwall and back then we were lucky to get 3-4 years life before the demon rust took over entirely.

Well I bought a 4 year old Chevette and had to fit new front wings and patch the inner wings around then. Replaced this with a Capri which had holes in the door bottoms and inner wings at 4 years old etc.

My father bought a new Austin 1100. At 18 months old he had a puncture. Instead of the jack lifting the car the sill collapsed. No protection inside at all and already nearly holed!

As you say cars back then didn’t last. Now we worry about dpf or dsg failure. Even the Yeti door galvanising issue would not write of a car.

I expect my 7 month old Yeti to terminal die with a mechanical issue but still with a sound body!

If it was pre '78 you won't need to worry about that now.......

hi all

thanks for all the help

just to confirm its a pre facelift 2013

Elegance model manual

so would the wheel fit ? as it from a 2014

It doesn't matter what year the car is, the fitments are the same.
