230 VRS or 184 Scout

Featured Replies

My 2014 VRS DSG (Diesel) Estate is up for renewel very soon and I'm starting to look at replacements. I have a test drive booked in a 230 VRS (petrol) Estate and a 184 Scout (Diesel) Estate - both DSG - at the weekend.

What's the general consensus on either of these?

Well it'll have to be the scout if you are looking at new as 230 production has stopped

Sorry, meant to say - these are both "approved used".....

Do you want or need a diesel?

Do you want or need Haldex?

They are chalk and cheese, only you know what you need or what you want.

In a similar vein to the post above, unless you need fuel economy and 4wd via haldex , then surely the VRS is the winner. Depends what you want/need.

Has to be the vRS but if I was after a more rugged estate I’d choose the Passat alltrack similar prices and better equipment

I recently swapped into a Oct 3 Scout (admittedly my previous car was an Oct 2 Scout) but I had also looked at VRS.  I don't necessarily need 4wd (we go camping and I do a bit of mountain biking) but for me it feels far more shore footed especially in bad weather (standing water, heavy rain on motorways etc) in comparison to other front wheel drive cars I've driven + I liked the rugged off road look.
