Changing for a tiguan

Featured Replies

Looking at buying a Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDi R Line 4 motion. 68000 miles on the clock.

Test drove today and really liked the car. I'm currently pushing for the car to have the cambelt, water pump and timing belt to be changed before purchasing.

Is there anything anyone can recommend to look for when buying one of these engines or to be wary of?

The Haldex should have had its 2nd oil change by now.

Check that.

Are you buying at a VW Main Dealership and is that where this Servicing Maintenance work is being done?

?

When was the car first registered?

It's from perry's Citroën.

Been serviced every year by the local garage and stamped.

2010 model

Didn't ask about the oil change I will need to research that.

?

So what about the VW emissions Fix?

Is it an engine that is part of that Service Action and has it been done?

As to the local servicing, if not done by a VW Dealership is there invoices showing what has been done, such as the AWD system,

brake fluid changes etc.?

Check the service manual and stamps. Get the Vin No and have the VW dealer check VW Service , updates and recall record.

Just a Heads Up.

When I asked a couple of Tiguan 4motion owners how much VW charge for a haldex oil service, they didn't know what I was talking about. When I explained what it was, they just seem to assume it would be changed during their normal servicing.

If VW dealers are anything like Škoda ones, they won't change it unless you ask for it. I've received reminders from both dealerships I've used for annual servicing, MoT, brake and Aircon services, but never for haldex servicing.

Apologies for the late reply.

Everything checked out OK, only problem was the car was due it cambelt, water pump and timing belt which the company had promised to do providing I left a deposit.

They rang back the following afternoon after they'd priced it all up and pulled out of the deal.

The search continues

The cambelt and water pump are all part of a VAG kit. The timing belt and cambelt are one of the same thing. The sealer obviously didn’t realise the cost and you were right to push for the job to be done.

They are available all over the country, VW Approved Used Cars or at Independents.

Ex Lease cars.

Full Main Dealer Service History,  meaning near nothing ever done by 3-4 years.

So search out the best one you can. and budget in getting the Servicing & Maintenance,  the Haldex at 3 years / 30,000 or what ever,

& the DSG at 40,000 miles, even though Audi are now saying 38,000 miles.

The the Water Pump as it is required.  No point paying Main Dealer Service & Maintenance Costs,

they were getting paid good money for 3 years to do not much.  Use an Independent using Genuine parts or even better than that crap.
