Just wondering when I was in the army  I don't remember landys using special tyres, just stock ones in the winter. Are land rover tyres winter biased ? The army/raf getting called out to help the police today  got me thinking.

From what I remember landys had budget off roads. Been nearly 20 years since I left though

My memory says that standard fit on all Series, FCs, Airportables and Wolves is/was an open block M&S, which is more of a self-cleaning mud tyre than any form of snow tyre.

Many were on SAT tyres, a similar type tread to some farmers / offroaders still use.  Narrow. self cleaning.  

Scary on the road, so so in snow, great in mud.

A 90 or wrong tyres are not as bad as a 110 / 127 that looses traction on ice.

 

I did not have the wrong tyres yesterday it was the wrong kind of snow...

I did wonder because the officer on sky news said even theservice drivers were struggling. I did wonder if the tyres would be the reason. 

Sorry i meant back in the day they had on SAT's. 

No idea now who gets what for where these days.

See my other thread on the fact that the Scottish emergency services chose to not fit winter tyres to even the majority of their fleets...

 

 

 

& standard fit & most aftermarket LR & 4x4 tyres are not the main three peak/snow flake rated.....might be M&S...but usually just mud
