Turbo / Engine Failure / White Grey smoke / No Power

Featured Replies

Hi all, sadly had a what appears a major issue with my Octavia (2.0 PD TDI 150kj) today.

After a fairly hard pull in second gear I heard a small pop and then a LOT of white / grey smoke which absolutely stank.  The car then lost loads of power over the next few yards and when I could pull over that is when I also started to hear some knocking .... erk!

Sounds pretty terminal to me, any one experienced this before and know if its likely new turbo + engine head off?  Does seem to be the turbo that has blown since when revving I get a lot of smoke, virtually no power and then the knocking sound kicks in.

I've yet to check for hoses and run VCDS since we had the little one with us and needed to get the car off the road.

More to follow but if you have any suggestions on fault finding this one I would much appreciate :)

Cheers!

Got any indicators on the dash?

Best case scenario it's just a hose that's let go and rattling around.

Not sure what to make of it by your description, more info needed.

Maybe a dropped valve???

Hi, no indications on the dash at all.  Checked hoses and all looks ok from what I can tell.

VCDS throws the following error though:

000665 Boost Pressure Regulation

PO299 - 000 - Control Range Not Reached.

Worse than that, the engine is completely empty of oil (Crazy no oil warning light).

So I suspect the turbo has given way and dumped the oil into the engine/exhaust hence all the smoke. The intake and ASV didnt seem too soaked in oil so presume its the exhaust side that has given way?

Either way, probably not worth repairing the car given the mileage and what possible damage has been done.
