Snow Mode

Featured Replies

Does any know what the "Snow" driving mode actually does? I used it last week in heavy snow, but I also tried driving in "Normal" mode and couldn't discern any difference. I had a BMW X3 in the Alps over Christmas and that worked well in heavy snow without having any mode selections except normal and sport, so I'm wondering if it's just a gimmick on the Skoda.

If you RT(F)M it may help.

From what I can gather, the Snow mode adjusts the electronic assistance levels from Normal to give a “safer” drive as perceived by VAG.

Slower throttle response. A bit more wheelspin.  Slower ABS to let the wheels work harder against snow build up.

I played with it too, but returned in Normal or Individual.

My local snow covered hump back bridge with sloping approach required full welly on Summer Tyres to get all 4 wheels spinning, but we got over OK while many turned back.

That'll be the manual that says the Kodiaq SUV "is not a true SUV"! I have actually read quite a bit of the manual but didn't find a description of what parameters were controlled. I was wondering if the 4WD engaged more (or was permanently engaged) in Snow mode but there's no real info on that to be found.

?

What tyres are on your Kodiaq?

I only suggested that the manual “may help”.

On the other hand, it may not :)

Funny that they never say that in any of the adverts or brochures. Wonder what the Advertising Standards people would say.

I don't think they claim that it is a true SUV anywhere. The only adverts I've seen have shown it driving along paved and unpaved roads, but never off-road. There are photos of it parked in various 'off-road' places in the brochures and on the website, but no mention of how it got there!

In any case, there is a certain artistic licence allowed. Remember the advert for the TT which showed it entering the atmosphere and landing on a big ramp? Not sure Audi were actually claiming it could do that.

That is the VW Group, 'LOST IN TRANSLATION' as usual.

They are supposed to be a GLOBAL Company. Selling world wide, but scared of mis-selling / advertising, being told they mi-represent.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_utility_vehicle

SUV,  'Sport Utility Vehicle', as was, or 'Suburban Utility Vehicle'.  which a Kodiaq is, even a FWD one.

Now 'Cross overs', or MPV's / SUV's. Or just bigger cars with higher roofs.

An 'Offroader' or Permanent ALL WHEEL DRIVE vehicles or a 4x4 it is not.  Just Part Time AWD / Haldex.

No low boxes, locking central diff, or diff lockers. Just big heavy passengers cars / van / People Carriers,

4 Motion etc.

Skoda / VW are the ones that do not Produce Off Roaders since the likes of the Syncro.

They do what most need them for. Pity not good recovery points to fit a Bridle to when they get stuck.

A point for pulling onto a recovery truck is not the best set up.

Odd that he should think that 'A manual box should make it better for offroading, years since that was the case with 'Serious Offroaders,

Comp Safari, Rock Crawlers, Winch Challenge, Glacier Trucks etc.

Hmmm - I'd say the black part of the front bumper and the under body air spoiler is .01 of a second from being reshaped...

Who wants to try that first with their painted bumper Sportline or L&K..?   ;)

I would have liked to see the Yeti crossing the brook in one shot in the 'never a real SUV', then reversing the route the same way, film shown un-edited at the crossings.  Front lip examined.

Maybe they can do it in a Karoq & a Kodiaq Scout as well.
