MPH - KPH

Featured Replies

I knew there was a button to flip the LED headlamps from LH driving to RH driving, but I was pleasantly surprised to see 2 further buttons to flip the dash readings for digital speed and distance travelled from MPH to KPH and Miles to Kilometres.

A nice wee bonus for a future trip across the water.

Good spot, Skoda in the UK have for some reason not included the second km/h scale on their speedo's for as long as I can remember.

On older models this meant the speed in km/h was displayed in the central digital display as a number, showing the speed in both mp/h and km/h is a legal requirement.

Being able to switch between the two makes a lot more sense.

I'm assuming the km/h scale is still absent from the speedo?

Oh no.

The standard speedo is dual scale.

I believe this is a UK standard requirement for all vehicles.

The digital speedo is simply an added option with the (sensible) bonus of being switchable.

If it is a UK standard to have a dual scale then it's either a new standard or Skoda have not complied for many years.

A lot of Skoda models do not have a dual scale, choosing (in the UK at least) to show mph only. They instead have a digital display for km/h...

Skoda Superb, mph only on the scale, km/h on the central display...

Only that photo is of the rev counter... :tongueout:

But yes, you can see enough of the speedo to see it is mph only. I think my wife's Ka is the same as well. It's definitely not a legal requirement or anything as far as I know to have both mph and kph on the speedometer.

It was the first Google image I found and I assumed most of us are intelligent enough to know the difference between a rev counter and speedo ;)

"every motor vehicle shall be fitted with a speedometer which, if the vehicle is first used on or after 1st April 1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in both miles per hour and kilometres per hour, either simultaneously or, by the operation of a switch, separately."

Skoda abide by the legal requirement in the UK, but historically chose to display the km/h as a digital readout rather than having it as a scale on the speedo, probably to keep it clutter free and easier to read.

I guess that meant a specific speedo for mph markets. In this day of simplification it looks as though they've fallen in line with most other manufacturers and decided to do it the old fashioned way.

Nice to see they've left the option of a selectable digital read-out though too, good spot Boxer Boy.
