Coil pack misfire

Hi got a code for ignition coil 1 misfire so bought a new one and replaced still coming up ? Tried swapping plugs around and still happening not every time but intermittently... yesterday when engine management light came on the car went into limp mode ? Any ideas or help would be much appreciated, my mate seems to think it's possibly an electrical fault loose  wire bad earth or something like that ?
