Fuel card

Featured Replies

A quick question for those who purchased their kodiaq and got the fuel card.

I understand that it is a prepaid MasterCard that you can use as you wish (within certain restrictions) but I was considering purchasing the extended warranty with it.

My question is mainly about the logistics/practicalities, as in do you get given the card on collecting the car or is it sent via snail mail etc.

There is obviously no rush with the extended warranty but it just crossed my mind that I don't know what the process is of actually getting the physical card.

Thanks in advance

If you want to Extend the Manufacturers Warranty it needs doing before the Car is First Registered.

It does not have to be on the Cars Order before the car is built or in the UK.  (there are threads on that, do not allow a Sales Person to persuade you otherwise.)

Extended Warranties at the end of the Manufacturers Warranty are another product, 3 years away in the UK.

2 year in other countries maybe.

As to the Fuel Card, get the T&C's for it, get them from Skoda UK in writing,

http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us

& ask the Dealership Sales Executive or Dealer Principal what they will allow you to use the card for with them....

Thank you both. I have found a bit of info on the extended warranty (maybe should have done a bit more research before...).

It does look like it needs ordering at time of ordering the car. I'll speak to the dealer today and see what they say as it isn't registered etc yet but don't hold out much hope.

Thanks again.

Why? It's a pre-paid MasterCard. It can be used for anything that can be paid for by MasterCard.

The only applicable T&Cs for using the card are the MasterCard T&Cs.

'Why',   because the OP said 'within certain restrictions',   so for taking 2 minutes to ask Skoda UK on a message you know the 'Certain Restrictions' and if they are applicable to buying the Extended Warranty, or if you can fill your boots at a Off Licensed premises.

eg On Extended Warranty on a New Car.

You just need to get the Extended Warranty before the car is 'First Registered'.

From the FAQs on the Fuel Card site...

Where can I use my fuel card?

You may use your card online or at most places that accept Mastercard®, in accordance with the cardholder terms and conditions. Remember, you need to know the balance on your card. If the amount of the value available on your card is not sufficient to cover your purchase, you will need to pay the difference by other means first and then use your fuel card.

Can I use my fuel card to obtain cash or purchase fuel at Pay@pump facilities?

No, your fuel card cannot be used to obtain cash from an ATM or cashback, nor can it be used to purchase fuel via a Pay@pump facility.

So - turns out you can use it for everything except buying fuel :D (yes, I know you can still pay at the kiosk for your fuel).

If you can use online or at most places that accept Mastercard,

then which places might it not be used at, or is something lost in the translation, or is it just Backside covering?

Cash machines and pay@pump for a start...

But basically, it's down to the regular T&Cs of any Pre-Paid MasterCard - Skoda won't be able to impose any other limitations on it.

It is a prepaid card, cannot be used for cash, in some automated machines (pay at pump etc), and some stores wont accept them to buy gift cards/vouchers

You need to buy the extended warranty before registration  (but I suspect you will need to use another card) as I cant see the card being sent to you before pick up

You can generally spend this type of card in supermarkets, so could always use it to pay for groceries

One other thing, don't put it away for a rainy day, I think they have an expiry date (might be a year)

Thanks everyone for all the info on the fuel card and extended warranty.  I've emailed the dealer about it and I'll see what they come back with.

All the links etc are really useful. Thanks again.

Just a thought. Could you use the fuel card to load a PayPal baance of £1000 and then withdraw the £1000 into a bank account.

Probably not but if you don't ask....

Smart thinking Batman... but I don't think so. I think you can use a reloadable pre-paid card (one that you register etc.) with PayPal, but I don't think you can use a single-use pre-paid card, such as this one.

I could well be wrong, but it all just goes to show how simple proper cash is and why a cashless society is still (in my opinion) a long way off.

Well it looks like I won't get chance to use the fuel card for the extended warranty (due to timescales for receiving the card) but dealer has confirmed I can add the 2 years extended manufacturers warranty.

Nice!

Could you use the fuel card to make a £1000 payment online again the finance?

From a bit of previous research, you can't use it as it is deemed as credit as it is in effect, a credit card and you can't use credit to pay finance in the t's & c's.

Isn't it a prepaid debit card?

No, it's a pre-loaded credit card.

I actually think it's neither debit nor credit card but a pre-paid e-money? card.

I know someone on a previous post tried using the card to pay an extra £1k off the finance and it was prohibited in the terms and conditions.

Ah ok just an idea!

After applying has anybody heard anything? I did the online application a week ago and heard nothing since.

Will it just turn up or is there an email or letter to confirm a successful claim?

I’ve got mine. Received email that card was on its way with an activation code 10 days after application ( dealer did my application at handover).  Card arrived a few days later and you need number from card and activation code to generate a PIN.

Ah ok I applied last weekend so hopefully this week.
