Changed that thermostats at last

Featured Replies

Finally I get to see the needle point north. Yeah I know its warm outside now. In reality I've changed the thermostat, the one in there must be 15years old and never gets to the operating temp. This job was nice and easy compare to others.

Take negative terminal off battery. Very important as you are working next to the live terminal on the back of the alternator.

Remove engine cover three bolts and remove cover.

Take undertray front section off.

Get bucket.

Pull clip off temp sensor on right hand side of radiator.

Pull temp sensor out.

Let fluid fill bucket. Tastes sticky sweet.

Back in bonnet use 10mm long nose six sided socket to remove the two bolts.

Pull thermostat housing out of the way.

More liquid to the bucket.

Note thermostat orientation.

Remove rubber ring and thermostat. Which was the hardest bit as the thermostat did not want to come out.

Clean area.

Insert new thermostat in correct orientation.

Insert rubber ring.

Put housing on gently and ensure all is lined up.

Put two bolts in.

Put temp probe back in.

Put temp probe clip back in.

Fill coolant the resivour.

Put battery negative back on.

Start car.

Massage coolant pipe.

Remove the coolant resivours three screws.

Remove scuttle cover.

Locate cabin coolant pipes.

Locate the one with vent hole.

Use pliers to undo pipe clip.

Move pipe back to allow to vent.

Make resivouir higher than vent pipe.

Refill coolant resivouir.

Start engine.

Allow to get to normal temp.

Ensure all air is vented and resivouir is topped up as required.

Once all air has gone at operating temp, move hose back to normal position.

Put pipe clip back in position.

Move coolant resivouir back to position.

Pit three screws back in resivior housing.

Check for leaks.

Put engine cover back on with 3 bolts.

Put engine undertray back on.

Put scuttle cover back on.

Smile.
