Skoda Octavia II 2.0 petrol Timing belt

Featured Replies

Hi Folks, new to owning a Skoda, and very impressed. This car has been exquisitely looked after by Skoda and done about 84k. Due a cam belt (4 years) and thinking of doing the job myself. Experience? I have already successfully done a Vtec 16v, Pug 406HDI (that was hell on earth full head removal) so I feel I have had enough experience. However, not sure if a special tool is required?

Question then has anyone else done this job, and did you plump for Gates or INA kit? Incidentally, thinking of replacing the water pump too.

Other option is whip it back to Skoda, but worried they will want to charge the earth!

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Olly.

Just a note the FSI has a chain.

Nope this Engine is code BWA (EA888) - pre 2009 so is belt :-)

If it's the same as the diesels then a special cam locking tool will be required to maintain timing during the change.

BWA has a belt on one side and a chain on the other side

Gates kit should be ok. To my knowledge there are no locking tools for the 2.0 BWA Cambelt replacement so you’d have to do it via the timing marks. I’d certainly replace the water pump and the only thing which can be a pain is the timing belt cover! If you’ve done the HDI Peugeot one you should be ok!

THnaks folks, gonna get on this soon when I have sorted the other things out!

I also thought an EA888 was a cam chain engine(tsi) - Is there an earlier version that has a belt(fsi)?
