Auto Emergency stop

Featured Replies

Evening all.  Driving home this afternoon and the car did an emergency stop of its own accord, flashing a huge red warning symbol on the dash.  It's a road I've driven several times in the two weeks I've had the car and had no issues.  It is slightly down a dip, but no need to brake for it, and I'd guess I was driving at about 35mph.

It really scared the hell out of me as I was on auto pilot home.   I can't think of a reason it did this. It was a quiet road with no people or other cars about.

Any ideas?  Could it have been pedestrian assist?

Typo

Mines given me a few false alerts (red flashing symbol) but it's not applied the brake yet. Seems to be very random as to when it does it though

Happened to a work colleague in his Audi A4 too. All Audi were able to do was 'reset' the system.

Could a leaf or piece of litter blown across the sensor?

“They all do that sir”.

You can adjust the sensitivity, but who knows if it makes a difference.

Mine alarmed 3 times running through Glasgow a couple of days ago. Usually railings or parked cars, but only once in a year have the brakes applied themselves.

Never has it happened when I’m close to crashing.

It’s not an accessory I’ll ever be dependant on for sure.

Mine did this to me this morning when Kitten distracted me while I was behind the wheel, now its been tested, and prevented me driving into the car we were following.

I really DON't want to have a scare like that again.

Mine does it on really tight corners. Just the alarm, no brakes. It also does it, correctly I might add, if something is turning left and I’m behind them, I try to time their turn off so I don’t have to brake when I go past them. It seems mine and Skoda’s idea of a safe gap are somewhat at odds. :D

Mine goes off every few days for some reason - it's starting to annoy me a little bit, but I'd rather false positives than false negatives!

But yes, the minimum distance setting for the ACC translates to "enough room for a lorry to pull out in between" at 70mph on the motorway. Any of the other settings are just pointless.
