Main dealers

We’re looking for a Fabia to replace the wife’s Corsa and have approached Wing Skoda as I can’t find the spec I’d like second hand.

Any advice or watch outs when dealing with a main dealer?

I do have a Carwow offer which they will be prepared to match.

All main dealers will supply the car, they only really vary in the part exchange offer, and the level of service.   Never let them fit a deal by fixing monthly payments, you are buying a car, not renting a lifestyle choice, and you have already decided to buy (they don’t know that), so your payments should not make your life difficult in 2-3 years time.

Before you visit dealer, decide how much you want to pay out each month over next 5 years until you own car outright.  Don’t be afraid (but don’t mention it to dealer) that you might take their PCP discounts, and within days of getting the car, pay it off having taken out a cheaper bank loan at about 3% instead

Unfortunatly many won’t treat you as a valued customer once they have your deposit (some do, and give regular progress updates).

Probably the best advise is whatever delivery date range they indicate, assume the longest date is a minimum, that way if it’s less it’s a bonus.   There are delivery threads littered with delays on certain specs.   Remember the Fabia is being facelifted in the summer, so any ordered now will probably be shipped quickly (but push for a good discount if it is to old spec)

Also don’t let them talk you into add ons like GAP insurance, special polishes etc.  You have a few weeks,  and a few clicks on internet will get these at their regular price, about third of what dealer charges.

One final thing, if the car is for long term, seriously consider buying the 5 car warranty (only available before car is registered), much more comprehensive than any add on bought later.
