Caravan towing

Featured Replies

Now done two trips to essex from the west midlands towing a 4 berth caravan loaded with kit for reenactment weekends in my 2.0 dsg 4x4 and it tows like a dream.. Obviously mpg drops way off but hardly feels like im towing and with the adaptive cruise control and lane assist its the best towing vehicle ever!

Excellent news...thankyou. Waiting delivery of my 2.0 Tdi DSG 4x4 with tow hook. Confirmed build week 21 (next week!), so all being well it won't be long.

Did you put a few miles on the clock before you towed for the first time just to get the engine settled in?

The mpg goes down significantly but still way more economical than previous vehicles

That's great thank you. I think my towing mpg will be without doubt better than my present car...if not, there's something radically wrong. But I am confident all will be ok...no point fretting in advance.

I was averaging 21 mpg without towing... Now 29 to 31 with towing

That makes me feel ill. [I mean the 21mpg bit] Currently get 38 to 42 towing with a diesel  2.0L Yeti, but expect a big drop when eventually swap to a 1.5tsi karoq.
