Air Con Pump Clutch Repair

Featured Replies

Hi,

My air con isn't working so I took a close look at the air con compressor unit and it looks like the drive splines on the clutch plate assembly may have been stripped.  Looking on the internet I have found that this is a fairly common problem with VAG Delphi AC pumps.  In fact there is a repair kit available.

Has anyone had this problem and fixed it by replacing the clutch unit?  If so I would appreciate suggestions for a reliable supplier and comments/advice on the fitting of this item.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I don't think the Octavia has a a/c compressor with a clutch unit, at least mine hasn't. The compressor is turning all the time .

You are correct, there is NO clutch on a MK2, they run all the time regardless of where you put the control.

The centre bolt comes loose or snaps inside, then it is a compressor change and a condenser too, recommended by the maker of the compressor, because you cant get the drier bits, even from the dealer, stopped doing the ones with the plastic nut too.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.  My compressor part number is 5N0 820 803E and this assembly apparently does have a clutch or a drive assembly at the front which is called a "clutch".  If you put the part number into ebay it comes up with the repair kit.

One of the suppliers has a Utube video showing how to carry out the repair see

from memory the "clutch" is infact a fail safe to protect "the rest" from a completely seized pump
