Radio not turning on with ignition

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have a small issue that is bugging me.

At the end of last year some kind person backed into my driver side door in Tesco car park, the car was actually an insurance write off in the end, CAT S, although all it needed was a new door (it was Cat S because the crash stucture in the door was affected but not the chassis etc.).

Anyway, it was sat at the auto-repair valuators for 8 weeks in total and since it came back I have had an issue with the radio in that if the radio is on, and I turn off the ignition, when I then turn on the ignition again and start the car the radio does not come on automatically where it did previously, I have to manually switch it on.

Radio is a Skoda  factory fit Blaupunkt MFD2 navigation unit with screen.

I'm not losing any stored settings, and haven't experienced any other issues with the radio itself. I read on another forum that the ignition itself might be causing this, has anybody had the same issue and do you have a cure? Is it a case that replacing the ignition might be a good start?

At the moment I'm sat on the insurance payout, I was going to keep the car but small niggles like this and another (which I will post separately) are edging me further towards it going on Ebay very soon :(

Cheers

Might be worth removing both radio fuses (one is in the engine compartment) or alternatively disconnection the battery for a few minutes. Radios these days are computer controlled and like all computers, can sometimes require the equivalent of Ctr Alt Del i.e. removing power to force a reset.

My Bolero radio would only show the start up screen and then get stuck. I removed the fuse in the cabin to no avail but I did not know about the under bonnet fuse. It was booked in to be looked at but towards the end of the four weeks waiting time I had to replace the starter battery. This required the battery to be disconnected and on putting in the new battery. the Bolero radio sprang unto life as normal on switching on the ignition. Problem solved.

Worth a try, and check both the fuses at the same time.

Spot on, good suggestion... embarrassed not to have thought to do that myself !
