Brrrrrr. Cold blast when turning

Featured Replies

Hello all.  I'm generally very happy with my 2.0 diesel - mainly because I am too lazy ever to pack properly so can treat it a bit like a van and chuck bikes and kids in.

However has anyone else noticed that if you have the heater on (hopefully not for much longer if this weather sticks) and turn hard left, the air vents fleetingly deliver an unheated blast from the cold outside?  On cold mornings its enough to make me want to go round the block the long way to only turn right!

It happens on my Superb II as well. Just simple fluid (air) dynamics. Simple for some people anyway.:D

Happens in all cars with raised transmission tunnel/ centre console apparently. Think of a slug of cold air to be just like the passengers footwell full of cold water, and when you turn sharp left this cold air cascades over the centre tunnel to your side, hence the cold feeling.

The appliance of science!  Thanks.

I shall drive with a tartan blanket over knees or set up a small wood burning stove in the passenger side.
