Octavia RS Stereo Won't switch off!

Featured Replies

Ok, so it will switch off with the on/off button, but not with the ignition. Here's the story. It's a symphony CD-changer set-up.

A few days ago, I fitted a mobile phone handsfree kit into the back of the stereo (The cheap one

Does the unit light up when you switch the lights on?

Have a look at Dean's site for diagrams.

When you reverted everything did you also reverse the change you made to the ign setting in the menu.

As Q said check the diagram on the link he posted, it explains what pins do what for the telephone interface on the back of the HU. according to the destructions it needs to be ign : on.

The thing is I have now reveresed eveything I have done. The unit is back how it was, and the bldy thing still won't go off. (It does switch off after an our of the ignition not being on, which is what it says it should do in the manual), but not instantly as it used to.

Bleedin thing!

Gary,

I had a similar thing. The unit would revert back to "Non Ignition" control.

I eventually got it to work by reading the instruction manual & following it EXACTLY to the letter, It worked then.

If you're local to Aylesbury you're welcome to try my Symphony unit out to see if that helps...

I thought I had read the manual, only one setting to change as far as I could tell and that was the IGN one, or am I missing something?...

Yes the unit lights up fine...

OK, I'll scrap that thought.... I'm now .

Try the fuses as it whappend to me when i fitted my new radio and piggy backed my hands free kit to it. it was one of the small ones it should be in the manual under ignition aux fuse

I think rooboy might have something here,

What happens when the ignition IS on and your driving, does the radio still turn itself off, if so the radio thinks the ign is already off.

the way modern radios with an ignition sense works is that when the ignition is turned on the feed goes into the radio which detects the amperage as a signal to turn itself on, and when the ignition is turned off the radio sees the loss of amperage and switches itself off. all that happens when the fuse blows is that you lose that feature of the radio and on the fabia you lose the auto switch on of the interior light (if set to door open).

To cut a long story short you will still have full control of the radio.

It is the S contact fuse which you need, which is fuse 37 (large fuses bottom centre) and is 10 amp (red)

When refitting the handsfree kit remove the fuse and replace after to prevent it blowing

Thanks, I will have a look at that when there is daylight! I did check the voltages with a meter however, and the 'ignition live' switch to the stereo is definatly live with the ignition on, and dead with the ignition off, so I would suggest the fuse is ok, but I'll check them all anyway...

the ignition live is diferent to the S contact and have different fuses. does the interior light come on when you remove the key from the ignition? (the switch has to be set to door open and ign had to be on) if it doesn't then there is a good chance it is the S contact
