Replenish - top-up or replace?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

This is about a Yeti, but is not model specific. The car was in today for its 1 year first service, described as an Interim service on the Skoda website and a 10,000 mile service by the franchised dealer's invoice.  For the engine oil it says "Replenish (after replenishing top up to max mark if necessary), standard VW 507 00 Filling quantity 4.7 litre"  The cost breakdown shows a 55% Contribution discount and an oil cost of £24.99, so I'm now wondering whether they have actually done a full oil change?

My second problem is with what they call the EVHC (stands for Electronic Vehicle Health Check), which I had assumed was the " Diagnostic check including report" listed as a service item on the Skoda website. http://www.skoda.co.uk/finance-and-offers/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed    When I asked for this, I was told that the vehicle is not plugged in to any system to check for faults and updates, and the "electronic" actually means that the check is recorded on an electronic device rather than a sheet of paper.

I'll check the oil later to see if it looks brand new, but is this just a perverse way of recording what has been done to the car, or maybe something more serious?

Thanks, Peter

as far as the oilchange =?   I would ring and ask what exactly was done, but first I would call Skoda UK act daft(don't worry there's plenty about) and ask about the EVHC ----"as my cars about to go in for it's first service"   then you should be in a better position to follow up,    A/ as to whether  you want to trust them again:   B/ also to find out how much oil you get for a nominal £55   (free filter-I don't think so)     I haven't read the blurb you flagged up but if this is on pre-paid maintenance package  I would want to make sure the work WAS done heard a lot of bad stuff (not neccesarily Skoda)    Remember any skimping on their part just means more work for them within OR  once the warranty's up---on your wallet   keep us posted how it goes --good luck

Thanks for the reply. The filter was charged separately at £8.47 along with a screw at £2.62 and "cleaner" at £3.81. The oil isn't the sort of golden colour you used to get, but looks more like a very pale grey, so maybe that's how it should look? The link says the following for an interim service:

An interim service includes:

  • Oil & filter change (fully synthetic oil)
  • Vehicle inspection test and report*
  • Full vehicle road test**
  • Vehicle & software enhancements from ŠKODA’s database
  • Replacement pollen filter ^
  • Diagnostic check including report
  • Re-set service interval display
  • Wash and vacuum
  • ŠKODA stamp in service book

?

Who are we talking about here,  Arnold Clark Inverness?

http://volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/regimes

The link for Skoda is on the Offer at Participating Dealers on cars 3-10 years old.

Money for old rope, simply fixed, simply over charged only too often.   Major Service charges, no plug or airfilter filled,

yet costs the same and VAT must be getting taken yet how is VAT charged on something not provided?

If the car is on Fixed servicing it was called Minor and major servicing (inspection Service) before it started being called Interim service.

Part of Main Dealer Servicing is a Diagnostic check and any enhancements / software updates being done.

Always ask for the paperwork since the Service Books were stopped, and the Health Check report to be printed.

If at AC or Parks then double check everything, then check again, and if asking at a service desk be sure to ask them to get people with a clue to help when they are just bumping their gums.

The problem here is in trying to find out what is actually included in the service, since the link to cars less than 1 year old only talks about an "oil service" and an "oil and inspection" service, but with a video that doesn't work for me. http://www.skoda.co.uk/finance-and-offers/service-and-maintenance

The Owner's Manual is also less than clear on what should actually be done at this service, so not really any help there. The "health check" seems to have comprised of checking fluid levels and tyres as part of a "visual safety inspection", and I was sent a text saying that these were all fine.

I have only gone back to diesel as a towcar and have actively used a petrol car for short journeys until I sold it in January, so my first year's mileage is low. The Yeti details indicated it had been set for variable servicing, but I wanted it to be freshly serviced before I start towing a caravan. As for your original question, time pressures meant I had to have it serviced locally and it was indeed carried out by a Participating Skoda Retailer in the Highlands. :o

Service as you know is needed by location location location and users usage.

So Highland Scotland and towing.

Cars that are keepers,  not stuff that dealership care nothing about as they are lease cars, and once the warranty is expired not something they need bother about, customer pay through the nose for work required.

Pre winter preparation and post winter servicing and maintenance even at under and over one year old.   Main Dealer Servicing not fit for purpose even though European Manufacturers Service Schedules.

So brakes and suspension and tyres need looked after.

Slider pins for brakes, correct greasing etc.

Warm steam cleaned or hosed and dried underneath pre winter and silicone spray etc, Finnigans waxoyl (clear) or what ever, and the same in the warm weather now.

Pollen filter every 2 years or more often if crops and weather require, same with air filters, check them, do not trust techs.

Haldex is now supposedly 3 years / 30,000 miles, but do not trust Skoda / VW main dealers to get that right.

Luckily you can find a good VW Dealership near that is not owned by Arnold Clark Motor Group or Parks of Hamilton,

or take a day out to Maud and let Victoria Garage look after your pride and joy.
