Sticky Wipers

Featured Replies

As in - stuck to the screen.

For the first time ever, I found my wipers stuck to the screen - and not with winter ice and snow.

Today I used the wash/wipe to clean my screen when leaving home. Lots of skoosh, but no wiping. Nothing.

I stopped to go find a cloth to wipe the water off the window and noticed one wiper “twitch”. So I jumped out and literally had to unstick both blades from the screen. Then they worked OK again.

I was relieved as I suspected some electrical fault.

The cause was an unusual amount of tree sap all over both our cars. Really fine sticky stuff that you could see and feel all over the bodywork and windows.

I’ve never met this in the few years in this abode.

Washed both cars down with a sponge in one hand and a garden hose in the other. Something only possible in these warmer months :)

Sycamore tree probably. Avoid them like the plague at this time of year. There is a country road near me lined with them, you can see darks patches on the road where the sap has dropped.

Surprised it didn't pop a fuse, hope it hasn't damaged the motor.

I bet you are right.... you have the current weather and then aphids/green fly and sycamores get together to a) damage the sycamore and get it to drip sap followed by B) the aphids widdling their own sugary mix. Nature is so cuddly.

Lime trees also deposit a whole load of 'stuff' you don't want!
