vRS DSG Power Loss

Featured Replies

Evening Briskodians, I'm once again looking for guidance on a issue that happened on my drive home.

I decided to take a detour after about 20 minutes driving (onto a more enjoyable stretch of road) and dropped my DSG box into Sport mode at some lights. I pulled away at about 3/4 throttle and as the car shifted up from 2nd to 3rd there was a jolt followed by a loss of power. The engine wouldn't rev passed 2k rpm so I put it back into Drive mode and then noticed the coil light was flashing on the instrument panel. I pulled over and turned the engine off which resolved both the power loss and coil light. Tested both Sport and Drive mode and the car seems fine. When idle the engine only revs to 2.5k, but I've never had cause to rev it while idle to know if this is normal.

I have 2 questions:

1. What could have caused the issue?

2. Does it require a dealership visit?

Thanks for any helpful advice you can provide?

Can’t help with power loss but I can confirm there is a rev limiter in neutral and park on the DSG. My Mercedes also has one.

Sounds like it went into limp mode. Do you have a tuning box at all? If so it's quite possibly the cause, if not it's probably just a freak occurrence although there will probably be some sort of fault code stored, which will be visible with vcds.

I wouldn't worry too much if it's a once off.

Edit: diesel or petrol?

Thanks SashaGrace and pist0nbr0ke.

There's no tuning box and it's a Diesel.

My dad had the same symbol pop up in his 184. This was 1 during the winter when it was cold around -6c. It wasn't the gear box  but the car went into limp home. Never came back after it.

Skoda wanted to charge me £40 for them to diagnose it. If it was a problem they'd refund me. I refused.  Plugged in my vcds and looked up the errors. There were 2. 1 gearbox and 1 engine. Can't remember it. But I have since wiped them and, touch wood, never seen them pop up in over 8 months since then.

Do you have this or obdeleven?
