Testing an ignition coil

Featured Replies

I have 2010 petrol VRS. I have just replaced one coil.

since replacing that, I think two more are dead. Is there any test you can do on a multi meter to confirm this please.

stuck with a two cylinder car at present :(

Take the spark plug out that you know is good, fit it to the coil pack, earth it, crank the engine.

If you have no spark its a bad coil, sometimes they can produce a poor spark or break down at higher RPMS so this doesn't tell you the whole story

Thanks I just swapped them round the cylnders to double check and they are broken. 3 gone. So i guess the 4th will be out soon. Joys of cars.

I go with the thought, if one goes buy 4 new ones, as another one may go soon. In fact, I replaced all 4 coils a year ago, just as a preventative measure, but I am a bit anal mind. They are not that expensive from euro car parts.
